Kwame Anum Health Centre, Greater Accra Region
The Community's Healthcare Challenge
For many years, the people of Kwame Anum and neighbouring communities faced significant challenges in accessing quality healthcare. Residents often travelled long distances to receive even basic medical services, creating barriers to timely treatment, particularly for pregnant women, young children and the elderly.
As the community continued to grow, it became increasingly evident that the healthcare needs of the area extended beyond what a standard CHPS compound could provide.
Why We Intervened
At the Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation, our mission is to improve health outcomes by strengthening access to quality healthcare, especially in underserved communities. Following consultations with the Ghana Health Service and community leaders, we recognised the need for a more comprehensive healthcare facility that would not only support malaria prevention and treatment but also provide expanded primary healthcare services to a larger population. Rather than constructing a conventional CHPS compound, we made the decision to invest in a fully-fledged health centre that would serve as a long-term healthcare hub for the community.
What We Built
Through private fundraising efforts and the generous support of our partners, we constructed the Kwame Anum Health Centre, a modern 16-bed healthcare facility designed to provide comprehensive primary healthcare services.
The facility was officially commissioned and handed over to the Ghana Health Service on 24 September 2020 by our Founder and Chairperson, H.E. Mrs Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo.
The health centre was purpose-built to meet the evolving healthcare needs of approximately 30,000 people within Kwame Anum and surrounding communities.
The Impact on the Community
The establishment of the health centre has transformed healthcare delivery within the area by bringing quality medical services closer to thousands of residents.
Families now have access to comprehensive healthcare without travelling long distances, enabling earlier diagnosis, improved maternal healthcare, better child health outcomes and more effective malaria prevention and treatment.
The expanded facility also strengthens the capacity of the Ghana Health Service to deliver quality healthcare while reducing pressure on neighbouring health facilities.
