The Community's Healthcare Challenge
For many years, residents of Kobedi faced significant barriers to accessing quality healthcare. Expectant mothers, children and the elderly often travelled long distances to receive even the most basic medical care, delaying treatment and increasing the risk of preventable illnesses such as malaria.
Why We Intervened
At the Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation, we recognise that strengthening community healthcare is essential to reducing the burden of malaria and improving health outcomes. We identified Kobedi as a community where accessible primary healthcare would make a lasting difference.
What We Built
Through funds raised by the Foundation and the generous support of our partners, we constructed a fully equipped Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound to serve Kobedi and neighboring communities. The facility was officially handed over to the Ghana Health Service and the people of Kobedi on 15 November 2017 by our Founder and Chairperson, H.E. Mrs Rebecca Naa Okaikor Akufo-Addo.
The Impact on the Community
The facility has significantly improved access to healthcare by reducing travel time for residents and bringing essential services closer to families. It also strengthens early detection and treatment of malaria while improving maternal and child health within the catchment area. The CHPS Clinic intervention contributed to a reduction in infant mortality in the community from 50 per 1,000 live births to 17 per 1,000 live births.

During the commissioning ceremony, Foundation representatives reaffirmed that investing in CHPS compounds remains one of the most effective ways of delivering quality healthcare to underserved communities while supporting Ghana’s efforts to eliminate malaria.
Our Continued Commitment
The Kobedi CHPS Compound marked an important milestone in our healthcare infrastructure programme. We remain committed to supporting community health initiatives, strengthening frontline healthcare delivery and expanding access to quality healthcare across Ghana.
